Development Engineer – Battery Testing & Data Analysis (m/f/d)

Wendlingen am Neckar
Full-time
Permanent employee

What you’ll work on

Batene develops next-generation battery technologies whose performance we advance through modern testing methods, robust data analysis, and deep electrochemical understanding. Our cell development relies on precise measurement techniques, intelligent analysis tools, and the ability to interpret complex electrochemical phenomena.

We are therefore looking for team members who enjoy measuring, analyzing, and structuring data – people who like to dive deep into datasets, identify patterns, and generate new insights for our technology. If you are excited about electrochemical methods and want to actively shape battery performance, you will have a real impact at Batene.

Your responsibilities
  • Planning, execution, and evaluation of battery cell tests, including cell assembly
  • Application and further development of advanced electrochemical methods, such as EIS, GITT, PITT, or differential voltage analysis
  • Analysis and correlation of measurement data from cell testing, electrode parameters, material properties, and teardown analyses
  • Development, extension, and standardization of test protocols
  • Establishment and continuous improvement of quality analyses and internal data standards
  • Preparation of clear and well-founded reports to support internal decision-making
  • Close collaboration with electrode development and materials development teams

What you bring

Your profile
  • A university degree in engineering, materials science, chemistry, physics, or a related field
  • Professional experience in battery testing, electrochemical characterization, or data analysis is an advantage
  • Solid knowledge of electrochemical measurement techniques is required
  • Strong analytical skills, a structured approach to work, and an interest in correlative data analysis
  • Experience working with measurement data, ideally using Python, MATLAB, or similar tools
  • Careful and consistent documentation practices, with an interest in further developing methodologies
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills in German and/or English

What to expect at Batene

A growing environment: At Batene, building new things and continuous learning are part of everyday work. You will have the freedom to take ownership, shape your role, and grow alongside the company.

Clear communication and real responsibility:
We work with flat hierarchies and direct communication. Ideas are discussed openly, decisions are made pragmatically, and responsibility sits close to implementation.

Development that fits your role:
Rather than standardized training programs, we support individual development that is aligned with your responsibilities and strengthens your skills where it matters most.

A collaborative team culture:
You will work with people who bring different perspectives and share the ambition to move things forward together. We value trust, mutual support, and constructive collaboration.

Flexibility with accountability:
We offer flexible working hours within clearly aligned coordination times and, depending on the role and team setup, the option for remote work. Ownership, reliability, and collaboration are central to how we work.

Your place in the bigger picture:
Whether you join us full-time or part-time (30–40 hours per week), you will be an integral part of our shared mission. We value diverse perspectives and the contribution of every individual.

About us

Batene is a battery technology startup and a spin-off of the Max Planck Society. Our mission is to enable more efficient batteries and contribute to making sustainable energy broadly accessible.

Our offices and laboratories are located in the Neckarspinnerei Quarter near Stuttgart, a historic industrial site along the Neckar River that is currently being transformed into a mixed-use urban district. Batene is financially and technically supported by a group of investors and visionaries who are committed to economic, environmental, and social responsibility.
